Canada-based lithium-ion based battery system manufacturer Corvus Energy Inc. (Corvus) says it has secured $469,500 in funding from the National Research Council of Canada's Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) to develop the company's next generation Orca energy storage system (ESS) product line.

"NRC-IRAP's support is enabling us to accelerate the development and global marketing of our industry leading energy storage systems," said Andrew Morden, President & CEO of Corvus.

"The amount of innovation our team has packed into Orca, our next generation product line, has garnered attention from customers around the globe. We are extremely grateful for the continued support from the Government of Canada and the National Research Council."

The Orca ESS, Corvus' recently announced new product line, is said to be specifically designed for hybrid and all-electric maritime applications, and is based on the experience of over 1 million operating hours across more than 50 maritime projects utilising a Corvus ESS.

In January, Ship & Bunker reported that a validation process had demonstrated "vastly improved" product specifications of Corvus' lithium ion battery systems than previously reported.
