The Global Maritime Energy Efficiency Partnerships (GloMEEP) has announced that Astrid Dispert, Technical Adviser to the GloMEEP Project, has received the Lloyd's Register (LR) "Outstanding Contribution to Ship Efficiency" award.

As Ship & Bunker has previously reported, GloMEEP is a joint effort of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO), aimed at encouraging the adoption of energy efficiency measures for shipping in developing countries.

Dispert, speaking at the award ceremony in London, highlighted the importance of promoting an energy efficiency culture, noting that it should "lie at the heart of a sustainable maritime transportation system."

"A lot of excellent work has been done in the respective countries in a very short period of time. And it is encouraging to witness with how much dedication and energy these countries have embraced this project," said Dispert of the GloMEEP project.

The award is said to be intended to recognise an individual, company, or association for making an outstanding contribution toward the improvement of energy efficiency or the reduction of the maritime industry's environmental impact through research or training and education.

Nominees for the award are noted to have been put forward by a judging panel of independent experts, with the award winner determined by a public vote.

Other nominees are said to have included Jan Fransen, CEO of the Green Award Foundation, and Wallenius Wilhelmson Logistics (WWL).

As Ship & Bunker has reported, Dispert and a team of consultants this year have represented IMO at a number of workshops, held under the GloMEEP project.
