Höegh Autoliners has announced that its New Horizon hull 462E, the fifth vessel in a series of six fuel efficient Post-Panamax newbuilds set to be delivered to the company this year, completed its sea trial in Xiamen, China on August 9.

"The New Horizon will emit only half of the CO2 per transported unit, compared to a conventional car carrier," said the company, noting that the design was nominated for Nor-Shipping's Energy Efficiency award 2015.

With a deck area of 71,400 m², the New Horizon design is said to be the world's largest pure car/truck carrier PCTC in terms of capacity.

Höegh Autoliners says a naming ceremony will be held for the vessel August 24 in Xiamen.

Last year, a Höegh Autoliners car carrier was deliberately run aground off the Isle of Wight, UK after it started to list shortly after leaving the Port of Southampton.
