Bulgarian ship owner Navigation Maritime Bulgare (Navibulgar) has ordered four eco-friendly handysize bulk carriers from Hongqiang Shipyard in China, Foreship BlueTech Ltd. of Finland, which developed the ships' design, said in an emailed statement.

The 42,300 deadweight tonne (dwt) Bluetech 42 ships have hold volumes about 15 percent bigger than those of competitors, and their fuel use per unit of cargo are the lowest in clas, according to the designer.

The vessels, which have a service speed of 14 knots, are expected to provide extra fuel savings in slow steaming because they provide low resistance through the range of speeds.

The order includes options for two additional vessels.

Foreship BlueTech developed the Bluetech 42 design in response to increased slow-steaming in the industry, saying that computer modelling allowed it to minimise wave formation across the range of speeds, reducing resistance.
