The International Bunkering Industry Association (IBIA) Friday said that it is urging more of the industry to use the latest ISO specifications.

IBIA board Chairman Jens Maul Jorgensen says an increasing number of suppliers are using ISO 8217's 2010 specifications, but calls on all refiners, traders, and suppliers to use the latest specification.

"The latest specs are not too expensive for owners," he said, adding that oil prices have fallen by almost half.

"There are no excuses, refiners don't benefit when they blend the product down in quality because of a huge reduction and P&I clubs can now press their clients to get the latest ISO specs inserted in their vessel description."

Early this year, marine insurer Skuld issued a reminder to review ISO specifications in light of updated Emission Control Area (ECA) sulfur limits.
