Neste Corporation (Neste) Thursday announced that it will begin delivering low sulfur bunkers to Emissions Control Area (ECA) operator Eckerö Line at the start of the new year.

The agreement between the two companies specifically covers the supply of low sulfur bunkers to M/S Finlandia throughout 2017.

"I am happy that Eckerö Line selected Neste as its partner. The quality of our low sulfur marine fuel, lower sulfur emissions, and our logistics services convinced Eckerö Line to work with us," said Panu Kopra, Executive Vice President of Oil Retail at Neste

"Refuelling will take place at sea from ship to ship. This eliminates the need for tanker traffic among other cargo in the port area, and increases the safety of fuel distribution."

M/S Finlandia in noted to operate on the Helsinki-Tallinn route.

"This fall, m/s Finlandia reached the milestone of five million passengers in only a little over three and a half years. Carrying passenger volumes this high demands extreme reliability from fuel transportation," said Taru Keronen, CEO of Eckerö Line.

"Neste's precise and safe distribution services and its high-quality product are very important to us."

Neste currently produces two marine fuels with a sulfur content of less than 0.1 percent, and earlier this year said it was developing an "RMG-type" ECA compliant bunker fuel.
