Klüber Lubrication (Klüber) says it launched its newest its Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants (EALs) intended for ships and offshore installations at SMM 2016 in Hamburg earlier this month.

"The development of our eco-friendly specialty lubricants made for the extreme conditions prevailing at sea benefits substantially from the vast level of experience of the tribology experts at Klüber Lubrication," said Dirk Fabry, business development manager for marine at Klüber.

"As a result, they create powerful products contributing to less impact on the environment as well as longer maintenance intervals and component lifetimes."

Klüber says its focus for this year is on its biodegradable Klüberbio EG 2 gear oils, said to provide a high load-carrying capacity, shear stability, and compatibility with seals, ensuring reliable gear, thruster, and bearing operation.

Klüberbio EG 2 oils are noted to have been approved by major propeller shaft seal and thruster manufacturers, and comply with the EU Ecolabel requirements.

The company says the new Klüberbio LG 39-700 N and Klüberbio LG 39-701 N, are both "environmentally sound" and contain a base oil made from 100 percent renewable raw materials that protect open drives from wear, even at very low temperatures.

Meanwhile, the "ecocompatible" Klüberbio BM 32-142, a multi-purpose grease, is said to include special additives to reduce wear and protect against corrosion of highly loaded bearings, even at extremely low temperatures.
