Saga Cruises has signed an agreement with Yara Marine Technologies (Yara) for the supply of exhaust gas scrubber systems to the cruise operators latest newbuilding, with the option for the supply to a second vessel as well, Passenger Ship Technology reports.

"We are proud to announce the contract with Saga and we look forward to seeing this impressive cruise vessel in operation," said Peter Strandberg, CEO of Yara.

"The decision to install scrubber systems on the vessel demonstrates Saga's commitment to environmental regulations and reaffirms Yara Marine Technologies' strong position in the exhaust gas cleaning market."

The newbuild vessel, which is slated for delivery in 2019, is set to have its four MAN engines each fitted with a Yara SOx scrubber in order to meet the International Maritime Organization's (IMO's) current and future emission regulations.

In late October, upon news of the IMO decision to implement a 0.5 percent global sulfur cap on marine fuels in 2020, Yves Bonte, Head of Industrial business at Yara, called it "a good day for people all around the world."
