ABB to Supply Power and Propulsion Packages to Genting Group Vessels

ABB Monday announced that it will supply a power, propulsion, and automation packages for a series of new cruise vessels being built by MV Werften for Genting Hong Kong's Crystal Cruises and Star Cruises.

"The cooperation with ABB will further strengthen and support our vision to build the world's most modern and efficient cruise vessels," said Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, Executive Chairman of the Genting Group.

"Together with MV WERFTEN and ABB we will incorporate the latest technology into our luxury cruise ships."

Crystal Cruises' three"Endeavor Class" vessels covered by the agreements are set to feature a Polar Class 6 to allow for Arctic cruising

Meanwhile, the Star Cruises' two 204,000 tonne "Global Class" vessels under the agreement are set to become two of the largest on the market and have been specially designed for the Asian cruise market.

"We are seeing increased interest in the polar regions from the passenger sector, so our expertise in the cruise and ice-going sectors means we are ideally positioned and can fully support our customers with their new projects," said Marcus Högblom, Vice President of Global Sales, Passenger vessels and Azipod propulsion.

The five vessels are noted to be slated for delivery beginning in 2019.
