Puerto Rico-based emissions abatement technology firm Triton Emission Solutions Inc. (Triton) Monday announced in a market statement that it has set up a Swedish subsidiary.

The new Triton subsidiary will focus on the company's key products, the DSOX-20 Fuel Purification System and the NJORD Exhaust Gas Scrubber.

"This subsidiary will enable the Company to better serve its potential customers in the European Union," said Rasmus Norling, the company's CEO.

Triton said its products were currently aimed at cruise lines, freight shippers and tankers but that the technologies "have worldwide applications that are not limited to the maritime industry."

Prior to August 2014 Triton was called Poly Shield Technologies Inc.

BP Singapore President, Terence Yuen, recently said scrubbers were the most economic option for shipowner compliance with Emissions Control Area rules.
