Hempel A/S (Hempel) says Neptune Lines' Pure Car & Truck Carriers (PCTCs) have been able to glean reductions in both bunker consumption and associated emissions with the use of Hempel's Hempaguard hull coating.

Neptune Lines first applied Hempaguard X7 hull coating to its PCTC Neptune Dynamis in 2012.

"After the change, it quickly became apparent that Neptune Dynamis was out-performing the company's other vessels in terms of fuel efficiency and emissions," said Hempel of the trial.

The trial results are noted to have led the company to switch other vessels in its fleet to Hempaguard as well.

"Hempaguard X7 is clearly the best hull coating available in terms of fouling control," said Dr. George Kriezis, Technical Manager at Neptune Lines.

"After seeing the performance and fuel savings on Neptune Dynamis, it was a simple choice to specify Hempaguard X7 for our other vessels."

In November, Hempel proclaimed that Italy-based Grimaldi Group (Grimaldi) had gleaned "significant" reductions in its bunker bill thanks to reduced consumption and associated emissions resulting from the application of Hempel's Hempaguard X7 and Hempasil X3 silicone hull coatings on more than 30 vessels since 2011.
