BIMCO this week announced in an emailed statement that it has launched its guide to maritime environmental and efficiency management with the support of Class NK.

The new resource, which was developed in partnership with Fathom and CSL Group, directs shipowners and operators on ways to develop a comprehensive system that can also help companies adhere to environmental regulations.

“I recommend this guide to ship owners and operators as an excellent tool to facilitate the efficient management of ships, with steps to tackle the great and complex environmental challenges they face on a daily basis," said BIMCO President John Denholm.

“It can also assist companies in minimising the risk of global non-compliance issues, which can be very costly and inconvenient for owners and operators.”

The guide contains three sections, with the first focusing on creating a framework, the second on the technical and regulatory nuances of environmental regulations, and the third providing templates in the form of logbooks, forms, and data collection tools.

“The extensive review process means that this guide has been written by the industry, for the industry – ultimately helping companies remain competitive in today’s complex regulatory landscape,” said Catherine Austin, executive director of Fathom

“This is the first publication to address the lack of a single resource covering both comprehensive information on environmental and efficiency management and to provide a framework for shipping companies to develop their own tailored system.”

In January, BIMCO also released explanatory notes for its new standard bunker contract.
