The Government of Antigua & Barbuda Friday, through the West Indies Oil Company (WIOC), will sign an agreement with Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.(RCL) in order to provide the cruise line's vessels with fuel when docked in Antigua, local media outlet the Antigua Observer reports.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne, and the Minister of Tourism & Energy, Asot Michael, as well as representatives from WIOC and RCL, are set to be the signatories to the agreement.

“We’re putting things in place ... we are ready to bunker,” said Gregory Georges, WIOC's CEO.

"One of the larger cruise ships like the Queen Mary would take approximately 4,300 metric tonnes; that’s about 30,000 barrels… that’s almost like the monthly consumption of Antigua," he added.

On Tuesday, Ship & Bunker reported that it would utlise hydrogen fuel cell technology to provide additional power on their new LNG-powered Icon vessel class.
