Gulf Agency Company Ltd. (GAC) today announced that HullWiper, its bunker-saving hull cleaning system, has been approved for use at Spain's Port of Valencia.

"Until now, hull cleaning in Spain has largely been associated with Algeciras, at the southern tip of the country, due to the concentration of maintenance companies using traditional methods there," said Simon Doran, Managing Director at GAC Environhull.

"With the availability of HullWiper, Valencia is featuring more and more on the radar of owners and operators looking for an alternative that makes sound economical and ecological sense."

GAC EnvironHull says it is now offering the incentive of a 20 percent discount on all HullWiper cleans conducted at Valencia, an incentive that Doran says it aimed at earning industry confidence for the technology during the transition from traditional hull cleaning techniques.

Doran notes the HullWiper could support Valencia's eco-friendly credentials, particularly among vessel operators returning from or preparing Atlantic voyages.

"HullWiper plays an active role in supporting the sustainability agenda at the Port of Valencia," said Doran.

"It is one of a number of new technologies that have been adopted by the port to help meet the market challenges faced by ship owners, operators and the wider industry."

Last April, GAC launched an online fuel cost savings calculator, intended to show the bunker savings that would be achieved using its EnvironHull hull cleaner.
