Yara Marine Technologies (Yara) says it will supply scrubber systems for four container feeder vessels, set to be operated by German ship manager Jüngerhans Maritime Services GmbH & Co. (Jüngerhans) on the North Sea.

The scrubber systems will enable the four vessels to comply with both the European Emissions Control Area (ECA) and the upcoming global 0.50 percent sulfur cap, which is set to be implemented from 2020.

"Installing Yara Marine scrubbers reconfirms Jüngerhans position as the leading technical manager in the North Sea segment, their new vessels are future proof with respect to the new global sulfur cap," said Yara.

Yara says the installed scrubber systems will specifically allow the vessels to operate on HFO with a sulfur content of up to 3.5 percent.

The four newbuilds are noted to be currently under construction at Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard co., Ltd (Zhoushan), with delivery of the first vessel expected before the fourth quarter of 2017.

As Ship & Bunker reported at the end of October, Yves Bonte, Head of Industrial business at Yara welcomed a decision by the IMO to implement a 0.5 percent global sulfur cap on marine fuels in 2020.
