Earlier this year Yahoo Inc (Yahoo) said on August 5, 2016, it would end support for it's "legacy" messenger platform, but over a week later many Ship & Bunker readers have noticed that the much-loved communication platform is still working.

This is particularly surprising given that last month Yahoo told Ship & Bunker, as well as a number of other media outlets, that the legacy system would stop working on August 5.

Ship & Bunker recently spoke to Yahoo to find out why this was, and a spokesperson told us that now, "older versions of Yahoo Messenger will begin shutting down on August 5, 2016, and will no longer work as of August 31, 2016."

No explanation was provided as to why the "final" date has changed.

That new August 31, 2016 date was also reiterated in a general communication from the company today when it notified customers that the desktop versions of "new" messenger were now available for Mac and Windows.

A Ship & Bunker poll and general survey of major bunker companies reveals that due to concerns over Compliance requirements with "new" Yahoo messenger, the bunker industry is now moving to Skype as its main messenger platform.
