A number of shipping organisations are backing a call to ban the carriage of non-compliant bunker fuel once the 0.5% global sulfur cap comes into force.

BIMCO, the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), the World Shipping Council, Intertanko, the Cruise Lines International Association and the International Parcel Tankers Association handed in a submission to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) asking it to prohibit the carriage of non-compliant fuel, according to maritime news provider Lloyd's List.

ICS made its intention clear last month. The issue of implementating the 2020 sulfur cap will be discussed at the IMO in February.
