Carnival Corporation & plc (Carnival) says that, over the coming weeks, AIDA Cruises will begin regular operations for bunkering AIDAperla with liquefied natural gas (LNG) when the vessel is docked at the ports of Barcelona, Marseille, and Civitavecchia.

AIDA Cruises is noted to be currently in discussion with authorities in Palma de Mallorca to see LNG bunkering operations for the vessel at that Spanish port as well.

"On average a cruise ship spends 40 percent of its operating time in while docked in port," notes Carnival.

"Thanks to the use of a dual-fuel engine, AIDAperla can produce the power she requires while docked in port from liquefied natural gas. LNG is supplied at ports by an LNG truck."

In June, Carnival said AIDA Cruises was preparing for what it says is the first LNG supply operation to a cruise ship in the Mediterranean.
