Global IMO in-scope demand by year and the quarterly Key Markets survey across the leading bunkering locations are available to subscribers. The tables below show what is covered.
Subscribe Now →Ships of 5,000 GT and above on international voyages report fuel consumption to the IMO, but not every ship in scope reports. Implied demand scales the reported total up by the share of in-scope gross tonnage that did report — so it estimates total demand, not just the part that was reported. Because that reporting rate moves year to year, changes in this series partly reflect reporting compliance as well as real demand. In scope demand is less than overall global bunker demand as it omits that from several sectors such as inland vessels, fishing, and military.
