In an emailed note to customers, Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras) Friday announced that it would begin selling RMK500 in Brazil's Port of Santos.

The move is effective August 1, 2016.

The company further noted that "ISO 8217:2010 specification for residual marine fuels is guaranteed."

In recent years RMK has been taking an increasing share of the market, and at CMA's Shipping 2015 conference bunker industry expert Dr Rudy Kassinger predicted that the upcoming 0.50 percent global sulfur cap on marine fuel will be a key driving force behind IFO380 being replaced by 500 cSt product as the world's most popular grade of residual bunker fuel.

In July, Petrobras announced that it had signed an agreement with Southern Cross Group (Southern Cross) for the sale of 100 percent of Petrobras Chile Distribuición Ltda (PCD), held by Petrobras Caribe Ltda. (Petrobras Carib).
