DNV GL says its future as a unified company is strongly focused on sustainability, according to Asia-Pacific news site Eco-Business.

As part of the celebration of the 150th anniversary of both DNV and GL, which united to form DNV GL last year, the firm launched six scientific reports on sustainability, addressing the future of shipping, energy alternative, climate change adaptation, and other issues.

"I hope that we can use the findings of the themes, as well as the momentum of our 2014 celebrations, to engage a wide range of stakeholders in a forward-leaning discussion," said CEO Henrik Madsen.

"We want to guide our customers in making the right choices for the business, the lives they touch and the communities in which they exist."

The company also opened a new Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore this year with features like energy-saving lighting and ventilation systems that helped it win Green Mark Gold Plus certification under a Singapore green building rating system.

Steen Lund, DNV GL's regional manager for Maritime Southeast Asia & Pacific, said sustainability is fundamental to the firm's operations.

"All the services we render focus on safeguarding life, property and or the environment," he said.

"We do not offer services that do not fall into one of these categories."

Already this year, DNV GL signed an agreement with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) to collaborate on research and development efforts, including emissions reduction, liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkers, and fuel efficiency initiatives.
