U.S.-based Mercatus Energy Advisors (Mercatus) has announced that Mercatus Energy Advisors - EMEA has opened in Copenhagen, Denmark, and that the company has brought on Morten Elgkjaer as the Vice President of the new firm dedicated to the European, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) market.

"As a leading, independent energy advisory and research firm we have to be on the ground in EMEA," said Mike Corley, Founder & Managing Director of Mercatus.

"We already do a significant amount of business in the EMEA regions, but it's time to expand our efforts. We are delighted to have found Morten to join us and lead our EMEA efforts.

"Morten is the ideal person to spearhead our efforts in EMEA, which are very important markets for our firm," added Corley.

Elgkjaer is formerly of O.W. Bunker & Trading A/S and Nordea Markets, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Mercatus says that the Copenhagen-based energy advisory and research firm's efforts in EMEA will compliment the company's global efforts, and will allow Mercatus to better serve its clients both within the EMEA and internationally.

"I am excited about joining Mercatus. It is a very talented team, with a culture and philosophy I am proud to represent," said Elgkjaer.

"I look forward to helping the firm build our presence in EMEA and to introducing my colleagues in the EMEA energy markets to the firm's capabilities."

Earlier this month, it was reported that a focus on bunker suppliers to help further "self-regulation" of the industry, along with drone surveillance and other so-called "sniffer" technologies, are all part of Denmark's 2016 plans for Emissions Control Area (ECA) enforcement.
