Lloyd's Register Marine has released a new fuel management toolkit to help owners and operators better manage factors such as bunker quality and energy consumption, the company announced in an emailed statement.

The set of tools covers six main areas, which include bunker quantity, quality, operations, energy, emissions and a guidebook dubbed the "Knowledge Base."

The Knowledge Base is a distinguishing feature of the set, said the company, as it acts as a glossary to fuel quality requirements and gives recommendations on how to best avoid risk.

The toolkit is available to all existing customers of the company's Fuel Oil Bunkering Analysis and Advisory Service (FOBAS) with Lloyd's Register Marine also requesting feedback on the usefulness of the tools.

Last month, Lloyd's Register Marine Director Tom Boardley warned that companies need to be more aware of fuel-related procedures, as cases of ships sporadically losing power due to improper fuel switching inside of Emission Control Areas (ECA) has continued to persist.
