Greece-based dry bulk shipping company Diana Shipping Inc. has announced that it has acquired a 179,362 DWT Capesize dry bulk vessel for $28.5 million.

The M/V Churchill Bulker reportedly comes from an unaffiliated third party.

Excluding four newbuilds that are expected to be delivered throughout 2015 and 2016, the new acquisition will increase the company's fleet size to 42 vessels.

The move is notable given that industry players are mostly in consensus that slowing demand for commodities and a glut of vessels have made for a weak market and spurred an increased level of vessel scrapping for the sector.

Last month, Ship & Bunker reported that experts have forecasted that 2016 will be "challenging" for the dry bulk.
