Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) has announced a new medium-range tanker pool with Asahi Tanker Co., Ltd., Ultranav International S. A.., and OSG International, Inc.

The pool, named Clean Products Tankers Alliance, will have a fleet of approximately 60 ships.

Under the agreement, Santiago-headquartered Ultranav will operate International Maritime Organization (IMO)-type vessels in the Americas trade out of their Miami office.

IMO-type vessels typically carry petroleum products, easy chemicals, and vegetable oils, among other cargo.

In addition, MOL, who mainly operates out of Tokyo, Singapore, London, and Houston, will operate vessels for worldwide trade.

"The joint pool agreement will enable more efficient arrangement of vessels, allowing the flexibility to meet diverse customer needs with reliable, high-quality ocean transport service," said MOL in a statement.

MOL President Koichi Muto also previously directed attention to the company's strategies, having said that evolving environmental regulations were an opportunity for the shipping company to pursue growth.
