Bureau Veritas S.A. (BV) Thursday announced that its fuel monitoring programme, VeriFuel, will become an incentive provider under the Green Award programme.

Under the programme, Green Award certified ships will receive a 5 percent discount on fuel quality testing and on bunker surveys from VeriFuel, as well as a 15 percent discount on all fuel related VeriFuel training courses.

"The VeriFuel team provides expert opinion in regards to complying with quality specifications, environmental regulations and other legal requirements by the most enhanced testing scope, offering vessels a safer operation," said Bill Stamatopoulos, Business Development Manager at Bureau Veritas –VeriFuel.

"Furthermore, we have minimised waste in our laboratories and offices and provide a paperless environment for the vessel, and the biggest sampling kits for fewer dispatches to reduce CO2 emissions. Our customers can also utilise local laboratories for testing to avoid air freight of fuel samples."

BV says VeriFuel's participation in the Green Award programme aligns with its policy to minimise environmental impacts, and protect its employees and subcontractors' health and safety.

VerifFuel will officially join the Green Award programme as an incentive provider during a ceremony at their Athens, Greece laboratory on Friday.

In early June, DNV GL announced it had signed a partnership agreement with the Green Award Foundation, under which the company offers 10 percent discounts to ship owners and managers for DNV GL training and environmental audits for utlising the Green Award scheme.
