Oil and Gas giant Total S.A. (Total) has become the first French company to join the World Ocean Council (WOC).
The WOC describes itself as ‘An unprecedented international, cross-sectoral industry leadership alliance on Corporate Ocean Responsibility,’ and counts among its 40 plus members a number of ocean industries including renewable energy, shipping, maritime law, ocean technology firms and others.
Total, which has offshore production and exploration operations in Angola, Nigeria, Norway and Indonesia, is keen to work with the WOC in their efforts to engage responsible ocean companies and promote improved science and sustainable operations across the world’s oceans.
Manoelle Lepoutre, Total’s Senior Vice President Sustainable Development and Environment said: ‘Total is committed to responsible operations in the marine environment. We believe that the diverse ocean business community must collaborate to ensure ocean health in the interconnected marine ecosystems.’
