Chemoil Energy Limited says it will begin offering fuel compliant with 2015 Emission Control Area (ECA) rules at select ports beginning this month.

The fuel will be offered in ports around the U.S., the Gulf of Mexico and Panama, which includes Los Angeles, Houston, and New York.

The company said it will offer 0.10 percent Sulfur Fuel Oil (0.10%SFO) in New York and the gulf, while Los Angeles will have 0.10% Sulfur Marine Diesel Oil (DMB), both of which are cheaper than marine gas oil.

According to example specifications released by the supplier, the 0.10%SFO product in New York and Savannah has a viscosity of 26.3 cSt, and sold to ISO 8217:2010 specification for RMG 380.

In the Gulf Of Mexico and Houston the product's viscosity is 16.84 cSt and sold to ISO 8217:2010 specification for RMD80 with max 0.10 percent sulfur content.

Chemoil says it also has a "no objection" statement from an undisclosed engine manufacturer for the fuel oil products.

Product pricing was not discussed in the statement, but it was noted that the 0.10%SFO was "more cost effective than MGO".

Both the fuel oil and distillate fuels are in line with ECA regulations, which will begin limiting sulfur content in marine fuel used in ECAs to a maximum of 0.10 percent by weight beginning January 1, 2015.

Chemoil said that it will also offer marine gas oil (MGO) at the same ports, in addition to others around the U.S.

CEPSA also released its ECA-compliant fuel earlier this year, having aimed to have it ready for supply in December.
