Ionada Corporation (Ionada) has announced that it has won its first commercial order to supply its Membrane Scrubber exhaust gas cleaning system to a MG Management SAS (MG Management) owned RO-RO Cargo Carrier, the NOLHANAVA.

Ionada says it will deliver the 6 MW Membrane Scrubber during the fourth quarter of of this year.

"As a company operating in Atlantic Canada we understand the importance of protecting our ocean resources," said Yvon Dufour of MG Management.

"We chose Ionada and their Membrane Scrubber for their the green environmental solution and their strong commitment to implementing the technology on our vessel"

Edoardo Panziera, CEO at Ionada, commenting on the order, said "MG Management is a highly capable partner with a strong interest in seeing Canadian developed and engineered marine scrubber technology move forward."

"This first commercial order marks an important milestone event in the history of our company. We are honored to have been awarded this opportunity."

Ionada says its system, with "simplified retrofit installation," allows ship owners to gain the benefits of fuel cost savings while meeting ECA requirements without overboard discharge.

In July, Wärtsilä President and CEO Bjorn Rosengren said he believes that many ship operators will choose to use scrubbers to meet a 0.5 percent global sulfur cap for marine fuel when it comes into force in 2020 or 2025.
