Bunker supplier Sprague Operating Resources (Sprague) has become the second bunker supplier to be added to a growing list of creditors of Canada-based Nova Star Cruises, local media reports.

Nova Star Cruises, which until recently operated a service between Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, and Portland, Maine, is said to have missed one bunker payment in June for $147,354.92, and another payment in July for $149,719.68.

The move follows action taken last week by another bunker supplier, World Fuel Services (WFS) who is claiming almost $500,000 for unpaid bunkers.

Nova Star Cruises' vessel is currently in Portland, Maine having been arrested as a result of separate legal action taken against Nova Star Cruises by Portland Pilots Incorporated (Portland Pilots).

Portland Pilots says it is owed almost $200,000 in unpaid pilotage service costs, and is one of several companies claiming money from Nova Star Cruises.

Among the others claiming outstanding Nova Star debt is Brown Ship Services, which claims it is owed $48,110.58, a small tour operator claiming $600, as well the City of Portland, which claims that Nova Star utilised its municipal pier's services but failed to pay berthing and other related fees.

The City of Portland claims Nova Star owes $85,029.75 for overdue lease payments and accrued but unpaid lease payments.

Last week, Ship & Bunker reported that Nova Star Cruises said it intends to eventually pay all of its creditors.
