United Arab Emirates-based GAC Group's Brazilian operations have opened its sixth office in the country in Recife, the company announced this week.

GAC says the new office will cover operations at the port as well as at the Port of Suape.

"The opening of our sixth office in Brazil and the expansion into northeastern Brazil marks an important and strategic milestone for GAC," said Lars Heisselberg, group vice president of the Americas region.

"The new Suape office will be an important contribution to our global network as well as to our local shipping and logistics clients."

Both ports reportedly play strategic roles in Brazil’s trade with Africa, Central and North America, Europe and Asia, with Suape in particular purportedly seeing the region's highest growth rate.

"Ten years ago, Suape was a relatively small port, but thanks to developments since then, they now have everything it takes to become a key hub for business offering great opportunities," said Rodrigo DeMarco, managing director at GAC Brazil.

Earlier this year, it was reported that GAC UK was eyeing growth opportunities in the cruise sector.
