United Arab Emirates-based Gulf Petrochem Group will begin bunkering operations at the Port of Fujairah, the company announced Thursday in an emailed statement.

The licence issued by port authorities is effective immediately, and will see the company operate there under the name GP Bunkering FZE.

The new operations are expected to expand the company's presence in the UAE.

"With our existing storage facilities in Fujairah and our ability to supply bunker fuel out of strategic locations across the globe, we are able to offer even more choice and flexibility to vessel owners," said Group Director Prerit Goel

"And with the addition of our bunker supply offering out of Fujairah, the second largest bunker port in the world, we continue to enhance our reputation and seamlessly complement our global expansion plans."

According to Gulf Petrochem, GP Bunkering FZE will offer main grades such as RMG 380, RME 180, MGO DMA, and LSMGO subject to availability.

Earlier this year, the company's company's Global Head of Terminals was reported as saying that Gulf Petrochem is currently on a "development spree," with an aim to become a $4 billion company by 2016 compared to the present $2 billion
