Fuel-testing firm Intertek says it has opened a new petroleum laboratory in Morocco, offering local services to support the nation's growing fuel storage, trading, and logistical refining industries.

The laboratory is in the Tanger Med Free Zone on the Straits of Gibraltar between Tanger and Ceuta in northern Morocco.

"Intertek's new laboratory in Morocco brings professional and independent 24/7 testing and inspection expertise much closer to our customers operating in the area," said Kassem Wahid, the company's North Africa regional manager.

"Intertek will continue to invest resources into the Tanger Free Zone.

"Our decades-old commitment to providing world-class testing and inspection services to petroleum, LNG, and petrochemical clients operating in North Africa and the Mediterranean is as strong as ever."

The laboratory supports clients at major terminals in the area that stores more than 500,000 metric tonnes (mt) of bunker fuel and other refined products including gasoline and fuel oil.

The lab is capable of testing a range of refined petroleum products to ISO, ASTM, and other industry standards.

Last year, Intertek opened a new laboratory on the U.S. Gulf Coast and expanded its Darlington, UK ShipCare Coordination Centre.
