DNV GL Maritime has promoted its current COO and Senior Vice President Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen as its new CEO, the company announced Friday.

Current CEO Tor Svensen will rise to become Group Executive Vice President of DNV GL Group

According the company, Ørbeck-Nilssen has served his current position since 2013, and will continue to work out of the Hamburg office after his transition effective August 1, 2015.

"As a result of the merger between DNV and GL, we are now positioned to provide an enhanced set of benefits for our maritime customers," said Ørbeck-Nilssen.

"I look forward to lead our Maritime business and to ensure we remain the world's leading classification society."

In turn, the company said that Svensen will turn his focus to developing customer relationships and strategic projects as DNV GL's new Group EVP.

"I am pleased that Tor and Knut have accepted these key positions," said current Group President and CEO of DNV GL Henrik O. Madsen.

"I know them both as highly skilled leaders who are well recognised within the company, as well as among customers and authorities."

It was announced early this month that Remi Erikson would be Madsen's successor as Group President and CEO following the latter's planned retirement.
