Malaysia Detains Tanker for Alleged Anchoring Without Permission
The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained a tanker on Sunday, suspected of anchoring without permission off Pangkor Island in Perak.
MMEA said in a social media post yesterday that it detained the vessel about 5.9 nautical miles from the island during an enforcement operation in the Strait of Malacca.
The agency said the vessel had five crew members onboard, including four Myanmar nationals and one Indonesian national.
An inspection found that the vessel allegedly anchored without authorisation and could not produce insurance documentation covering liability for maritime claims.
The vessel's master and chief engineer were taken to the agency's Perak headquarters to assist with the investigation. Ship documents were also seized.
The case is currently being investigated.
