Shanghai Electric has completed an 8,000 mt green methanol bunkering operation at Shanghai's Yangshan Port in China, setting a global record for the largest single green methanol bunkering.

The operation was carried out on Monday with Shanghai International Port Group and CMA CGM ship as part of a green methanol refuelling ceremony, Shanghai Electric said in an announcement on today.

The fuel was mainly supplied by Shanghai Electric’s Taonan Green Methanol Project in Jilin province.

The company said the operation marked the project’s move into continuous production and batch deliveries.

The bunkering also provided the first large-scale test of a green fuel transport corridor linking Taonan with Dalian Port and Shanghai.

The corridor was launched in June by Shanghai, Jilin and Liaoning to connect green methanol production, storage, transport and marine bunkering.

Shanghai Electric said the operation supports Shanghai’s efforts to develop green fuel supply, certification and trading centres for international shipping.

Last year, CMA CGM had signed a green methanol long term supply agreement with SIPG Energy and Shanghai Electric Group.
