HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Completes Tests for New LNG Dual-Fuel Engine
The Engine and Machinery of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI-EMD) has completed type approval testing for its new LNG dual-fuel marine engine.
The tests were held from September 21-23 at the company’s Engine Techno Center in South Korea, HHI said in an announcement on Wednesday.
Representatives from seven classification societies, including DNV, ABS, Bureau Veritas, Lloyd’s Register and RINA, attended the test.
The new engine is based on HD Hyundai’s second-generation HiMSEN CLEAN engine platform and builds on its existing H35DF LNG dual-fuel engine.
The engine uses variable valve timing (VVT) to control the air entering the combustion chamber. HD Hyundai said the technology improves fuel efficiency and reduces methane slip.
The company developed the engine to meet demand for higher-output and more efficient marine engines.
