Yang Ming Boxship Completes First SIMOPS LNG Bunkering at Shanghai
Taiwan’s Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp’s container ship has completed its first LNG bunkering operation using simultaneous operations (SIMOPS) at the Port of Shanghai, China.
The 15,500 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ship YM Willpower received around 2,000 mt of LNG while cargo handling operations were underway, Yang Ming said in a LinkedIn post yesterday.
The operation was carried out in collaboration with Shanghai International Port (Group) and SIPG Energy Shanghai.
Using SIMOPS allows LNG bunkering and cargo operations to take place at the same time, helping to reduce port turnaround time and improve operational efficiency.
The bunkering marks another step in Yang Ming’s efforts to expand the use of alternative fuels and support the development of lower-carbon shipping.
The company had taken delivery of its third LNG dual-fuel container ship in June.
