Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) today announced that the newly-elected SSA Council has decided to form a Marine Fuels Committee.

The new operational committee is intended to address issues relating to bunkering operations - which were previously addressed by the SSA's Bunkering Sub-Committee - and attend to other issues, including preparations for Singapore's bunkering sector ahead of the 0.50 percent global sulfur cap and the rise of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a marine fuel.

"Bunkering has always been a very important segment of our industry, and issues relating to bunker and marine fuels in general have grown increasingly complex," said Esben Poulsson, SSA President.

"As such, in the anticipation that owners will take an increasing interest in what their ships consume, we have formed the Marine Fuels Committee to help ensure that our members will be well-prepared for the future."

The committee is set to be chaired by SSA Councillor Caroline Yang.
