Malta-based commodity trading firm Alkagesta’s Singapore unit achieved monthly marine fuel volumes of 200,000-250,000 mt within the regional market during its first year of operations.

The company’s Singapore entity, Alkagesta Asia Pte, commenced commercial activities on July 1, 2025, it said in an email statement on Monday.

During its first year, the Singapore team reached the bunker volumes while also trading naphtha cargoes into East and Southeast Asia.

The Singapore operation is led by Agshin Bakirzade, who oversees commodity trading across APAC, and Mithat Çiftçioğlu, who manages the firm's marine fuel distribution business

"The APAC marine fuels market remains highly attractive, but today success is increasingly driven by supply security, operational reliability, and financial discipline rather than simply chasing volume,"  Çiftçioğlu said.

Alkagesta said Singapore's importance as a marine fuel hub has been reinforced by disruptions affecting trade flows in the Red Sea and Middle East.

The company added that its group trading volumes grew from about 5.2 million mt in 2023 to more than 8.7 million mt in 2025.
