Tanker Hit Off the Coast of Saudi Arabia
A tanker was struck today by an unknown projectile off the coast of Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, according to a British government agency monitoring maritime security in the region.
The incident was reported 63 nautical miles west of Yanbu at 6:37 UTC today, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said in a social media update today.
“The Company Security Officer reported a tanker has been struck by an unknown projectile, causing a fire to the vessel on the main deck,” UKMTO added.
“All crew are safe and accounted for and no environmental impact has been reported.”
Yemen’s Houthi movement has attacked several ships linked to Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea since the group imposed the maritime blockade on Saudi Arabia on July 22.
Several marine insurers have cancelled certain war risk covers for vessels operating in parts of the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean.
