Cargo Ship Reportedly Hit in Hormuz Strait
A cargo ship was reportedly hit by unknown projectiles within the Strait of Hormuz yesterday evening, according to a British government agency monitoring maritime security in the region.
The incident was reported at 18:30 UTC in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency said in a social media post on Tuesday.
“A verified source reported a cargo vessel has been struck by an unknown projectile, UKMTO said.
“Environmental impact is unknown at the time of the report.”
The incident happened before the US President Donald Trump announced a temporary pause to Project Freedom, the US maritime operation to help stranded ships pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
The pause followed requests from Pakistan and other countries, as well as progress made in negotiations with Iran towards what he described as a “Complete and Final Agreement,” he said in a social media post on Tuesday.
He added that the existing Iranian ports blockade would “remain in full force and effect” during the pause.
