Wasaline Signs Two-Year Bio-LNG Supply Deal With St1 Biokraft
Ferry operator Wasaline has signed a bio-LNG supply agreement with St1 Biokraft to fuel its LNG-capable Aurora Botnia ferry operating between Finland and Sweden.
Deliveries will begin in January 2028, with the aim of sourcing the fuel from a new biogas plant in Nurmo, about 80 km from Vaasa.
The plant is operated by Suomen Lantakaasu, a joint venture between St1 Biokraft and Finnish dairy company Valio.
The liquefied biogas also known as bio-LNG will be transported by truck to the Port of Vaasa for bunkering.
Wasaline has been using bio-LNG for several years to reduce emissions from its ferry service.
Aurora Botnia also uses batteries and shore power as part of its energy system.
St1 Biokraft said the agreement was its first major marine biogas supply deal. The company sees shipping as a sector where biogas can help reduce emissions.
The agreement will run for two years from January 2028.
