Certas Energy today announced that Varun Chhabria has been made its Head of Marine and Risk from the start of May, as the UK-based bunker player looks to develop its Marine portfolio.

"We are pleased to announce that Varun Chhabria's role has been expanded and, as such, he is appointed as Head of Marine and Risk," said Gary Byers, General Manager – Marine and Lubricants South.

"In line with our new strategy, we are focusing on building adjacencies and, as such, continuing to grow our Marine division is essential. This division has shown much potential over the years and will play a huge part in the business's future as we look to broaden and further develop our portfolio."

As Ship & Bunker previously reported, the former OW Group Sourcing and Trading Manager joined Certas Energy in 2014.

"Last year, 2015, was a challenging one, amid refinery peaks and troughs, high inventory levels, ICE futures moving from 0.1% to 10ppm and flattening crude prices. This pattern is likely to continue in 2016, rather than following a straight forward path. This means that spreads are likely to be impacted over the coming months," said Chhabria.

"The two major challenges for oil companies are how they lock in demand and whether they are prepared to thrive in an environment that is oversupplied. In this role, my aim is to deal with both of these challenges in the best way possible, by forging a path to success without letting the uncertainty of product prices impact Certas Energy."
