At least 100 litres of HFO were spilled at St Petersburg during a bunkering operation involving the 9,683 DWT cargo ship Triton Reefer and local bunker tanker Freya, Maritime Herald reports.

The spill is reported to have been the result of a damaged hose that leaked fuel into the water.

The ship's crew was said to have taken immediate action to stop the fuel transfer, prevent further pollution, contain the spill, and report the incident to the local authorities.

An emergency team is reported to have responded to undertake spill clean up activities.

The vessel is said to have been detained for further investigation.
