Several seafarers are reported missing following a collision between two cargo ships in the North Sea on Tuesday morning.

The bulker Polesie and the general cargo ship Verity collided about 12 nautical miles southwest of Helgoland at about 5 AM local time, Germany's Central Command for Maritime Emergencies said in a statement on its website on Tuesday.

The Verity is likely to have sunk as a result, while the Polesie is still afloat, the authority said. The Polesie has 22 people on board.
