Marine fuels firm Verde Marine Energy has completed its first physical bunker delivery of B100 marine biofuel stem in the ARA market.

The B100 advanced FAME fuel was supplied to the Beautriton, a vessel owned by Vertom and operated and managed by Vertraco and ECL, the company said in a LinkedIn post on Tuesday.

The fuel is expected to provide up to 90% GHG emissions reduction compared with conventional marine fuels.

For the supply, Verde Marine Energy partnered with Sunoil-Biodiesel and IJsselland Bio Fuels B.V. to load the fuel at the Standic Terminal.

The company said the delivery marks its move from preparing for the EU's Renewable Energy Directive III (RED III) requirements to the active supply of certified sustainable marine biofuels.

Verde Marine Energy added that it is now able to supply EN14214- and ISO-compliant B100 by barge and truck across the ARA ports using its own logistics network and certification framework.

“By supplying B100 ourselves, we strengthen our role as a marine fuel supplier and create a practical route for shipowners to access sustainable bunker fuels,” Joe Tierney, head of trading at Verde Marine Energy, said.

Earlier this month, the company announced that it renewed its ISCC certification for biofuel bunker supply.
