The Port of Malaga in Spain has carried out its first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation for a cruise ship.

The sailing cruise ship OE Corinthian, which features hybrid propulsion, received 300 m3 of LNG during the operation, the port said on Thursday.

The LNG was supplied by the 12,500 m3 bunkering vessel Alisios LNG of energy company Axpo Group.

The port authority said the introduction of new LNG supply methods would help meet the needs of a diversifying fleet and growing demand for alternative marine fuels.

The operation forms part of the port's Green Port initiative, which promotes sustainability, energy efficiency and the use of lower-emission fuels in maritime transport.
