The Swedish Coast Guard says the grounded cargo ship Atlantic has been successfully debunkered, eliminating risk of a related spill.

The vessel grounded hard on Saturday south of Oskarshamn with 44,000 litres of diesel onboard, as well as other oils.

No pollution or injuries were reported and an investigation is underway.

The ship's master and chief mate have since been arrested for suspected negligence in relation to the grounding.

The Faroe Islands-flagged Atlantic is set to be refloated or removed by Wednesday.
