Baleària says it is set to add a new "eco fast ferry" to its Eivissa-Formentera route this December - the first of a series of four such vessels being built by Astilleros Gondan SA (Gondan).

The ships, which have a capacity for 350 people and can sail at a maximum speed of 28 knots, feature wave-piercing prow equipped with side water drainage tunnels that ease navigation in adverse sea conditions.

"The four eco fast ferries will be the most eco-efficient of their kind right now," said Adolfo Utor, Chairman of Baleària.

The four newbuilds will be named Eco AQUA, Eco TERRA, Eco AIRE, and Eco LUX, respectively.

As Ship & Bunker has reported, Baleària has also ordered two liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered newbuilds, both of which are expected to be operational by the end of 2018.
